First things first, since people really just want to know who they’re dealing with. This is me:

I’m a 40-something lefty gay Mac-loving cat person; shy at first but really blossom if you’re willing to be patient. I’m occasionally quite bitter but usually sanguine. I love languages & learning about other cultures.

I’ve been using the Internet since the late 1980s, have run a mailing list since the late 1980s, and spent nearly five years in charge of the postmaster, LISTSERV, IRC, and USENET functions at AOL. I’ve been involved in the fight against unsolicited commercial e-mail since the 1990s and participated in the first big legal battles against early spammers (Sanford Wallace v. AOL). I consider personal privacy to be one of the most important things for us to protect, particularly in a world where marketers have essentially been given fiat to run riot.
