[W]e’re starting to see that in some cases the carriers may actually be able to exploit this “openness” to create a closed system that may leave you crying for Apple’s closed system — at least theirs looks good and behaves as expected.

Android only trumps iPhone where AT&T coverage is poor | Electronista.

There’s nothing really earth-shaking in this report, though it’s kind of interesting to see how some of the user stats are broken down. Come back in a year, when Android has matured more as a product line, and let’s see where things lie then.

The great iPhone death watch – Apple 2.0 – Fortune Brainstorm Tech” is another interesting look at how virtually the entire tech world (at least, the Microsoft-loving part) completely botches analyzing how an Apple product will sell. While there’s no doubt that iPhone isn’t the perfect phone for everyone (and, frankly, there is no such device), the fact is that it has been a huge success and has forced an industry that generally hasn’t given the slightest care about end users to do so. While it’s debatable whether iPhone’s only “real” competition—Google’s Android OS-based phones and Palm’s Pre—would have come into existence without the iPhone to spur them on, it’s clear that the bar is pretty high for any smartphone today and that can only be good for customers.
